ENC2135 Class Reflection
Throughout my time in ENC2135, I have completely redefined my original view of composing. I thought it merely meant to write or type various texts. I quickly came to discover that writing is a recursive process that takes various elements to create a clean well-rounded composition. I found a lot of these elements came from what we learned under Lloyd Bitzer and his definition of a composition. During this segment of class, we learned and defined new vocabulary words that would help us understand composing and its complexities. One of our first assignments included making a map of our theory of composing. This ultimately helped us further grasp these vocabulary terms in preparation for our first project where we would be applying these terms in text analysis. This project really shaped me as a writer by encouraging me to research and reevaluate text and its rhetorical properties. In the end, it really gave me confidence in my understanding of the new terms. Project 2 and project 3 continued to help me grasp my understanding of composing in different genres. Throughout this course, I have effectively composed in seven genres: research paper, podcast, Tumblr blog, Snapchat, flyer, hashtag, and Twitter. Each and every one of these texts helped evolve my current definition of composing: the processes a composer must undergo to develop a composition that is rhetorically fitting to a specific genre conventions. I refer to it as my "current" definition rather than my "final", because as I continue to grow and develop as a writer, my interpretation of composing will also mold. All in all, this course has shaped me as a writer by developing a further understanding of genres and writing situations through the use of various assignments and activities.
